Endangered Species/Activism Project
>Task: This assignment is divided into three parts 1) a modified species biography 2) a small research paper and 3) a short group presentation. The project may be done in groups of 2. Your group will conduct Web research to compose a modified species biography for an endangered species. The biography will include some basic background on the organism’s ecology, factors leading to the species’ endangered status and efforts needed or currently in place to help the species recover. You will also research real world groups that use a specific type of activism in effort to make the world a better place. The final component of the assignment will be to present information about your endangered species while using methodologies in your presentation appropriate to the specific type of activism you have researched.

- Activism Research Paper: research a minimum of two different websites related to your type of activism. Write at least one paragraph with CD s taken from the websites for each of the following aspects of your activism type i) general ideology ii) methods iii) give real world examples of how a group(s) is using this activism to make the world better iv) give challenges to the success of this type of activism v) OHS Golden Page formatted work’s cited page and add anything else that will give your group members a feel for this type of activism. Do not expect to find a match where a real world activism type has a group working to benefit your End. Sp. Research the activism type. 80 pts for completing Due: first week of January
- Presentation: Your group members will present information from your endangered species biography as if you are members of a group using your researched activism type. The presentation method should mirror methods used by your type of activism, within the legal limits for a high school class. This might include teaching a classroom type lesson, acting out a skit, creating posters, creating power point slides, giving specific examples of how audience members can take action, doing a Socratic seminar and many others…you and you group must decide. I might be able to assist your group with some props and other materials for your presentation, but you must communicate with me in advance. I will not rush or jump to your needs if you make last minute requests. I will provide a presentation rubric next class; expect it to focus on presentation skills, success at mirroring activist type, visuals/props and answering questions about species and/or type of activism. 80pts Due: 2nd week of January
